Set alongside the picturesque mountains of northern Bali lies a serene and enchanting village known as Munduk. Far away from the bustling crowds and popular tourist hubs, Munduk offers a unique and authentic Balinese experience for those seeking a more peaceful retreat. Imagine cascading waterfalls and emerald-green rice terraces, Munduk will leave you in awe. This guide will cover the best things to do in Munduk, Bali.

Best Things to Do in Munduk, Bali
1. Explore Waterfalls
There are several worthy waterfalls to explore in Munduk Bali including the Munduk Waterfall and the Banyumala Waterfall (pictured above). Other notable waterfalls include Melanting and Golden Valley waterfalls, each offering a unique and tranquil setting.
2. Wanagiri Hidden Hills
Wanagiri Hidden Hills is a wonderful picture spot to stop by full of many different swings and nests for the perfect photo opportunity. The vantage points provide beautiful views of lush green hills, sparkling lakes, and distant mountains. It is situated near the village of Wanagiri in the Buleleng Regency.
Additionally, Wanagiri Hidden Hills is situated near two nearby lakes that add to its charm. Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan, surrounded by mist-covered mountains and forests, is visible from certain viewpoints within the area.
To enter the area you do have to pay a fee to take photos. It costs 100K IDR which is around $6 USD. They also have an additional charge if you want to rent a flying dress! They are fully prepared for instagrammers with light reflectors on hand and the staff is great at helping you take photos too.
3. Handara Gate

When exploring the region of Munduk in Bali, one of the must-visit attractions is the iconic Handara Gate. This picturesque entrance is a photographer’s paradise, with its beautifully designed traditional Balinese architecture and towering stone pillars. Walking through the gate, you’ll feel like stepping into a fairytale world. You can capture stunning photos against the backdrop of the gate, framed by the misty mountains and surrounding foliage. The Handara Gate resembles the famous and highly popular, Gate of Heaven Lempuyang Temple. This alternative can also e very busy. Unfortunately, when I arrived around mid-day, the place was already extremely full. They said the wait for a photo was up to 2 hours. So, sadly I missed taking a photo here. Be sure to come really early, even better if at sunrise to capture this place!
4. Ulun Danu Temple
Ulun Danu Temple, also known as Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, is a majestic Hindu temple located on the shores of Lake Bratan in the mountainous region of Bedugul, Bali, Indonesia. It is one of the most iconic and significant temples on the island, renowned for its stunning setting and architectural beauty.
The temple is dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of water, lakes, and rivers, and is a place of worship for the Balinese people who rely on abundant water sources for irrigation and agriculture. The name “Ulun Danu” translates to “the head of the lake,” emphasizing its spiritual connection to the lake and its role in the region’s water management.

The temple complex consists of several multi-tiered meru (pagoda-like) shrines and pavilions that seem to float on the calm waters of Lake Bratan. You can also have the opportunity to take a boat ride on the lake for closer views of the temple.

Munduk Moding Plantation in Bali, Indonesia, offers a coffee tour experience you won’t want to miss. Where to Stay in Munduk
There’s no other place I recommend in Munduk Bali other than Munduk Moding Plantation! It was one of the most beautiful and peaceful stays I’ve had.
