About Bali Flower Baths

The traditional practice of taking a flower bath traces its roots to Balinese Hindu rituals, where flowers hold deep symbolic significance in religious ceremonies and daily life.

The island’s lush flora, including vibrant orchids, fragrant frangipani, and colorful bougainvillea, provide the perfect ingredients for these indulgent baths.

Initially, flower baths were part of purification rituals in Balinese culture, believed to cleanse the body, mind, and spirit. Over time, as Bali emerged as a premier destination for wellness and spa tourism, flower baths gained popularity among travelers seeking rejuvenation and holistic experiences.

Resorts and spas across the island offer variations of flower baths, often combined with essential oils, herbs, and Balinese massage techniques.

So not only are flower baths aesthetic, they offer therapeutic benefits to heal your body and connect you with the spiritual world.

Tips for Taking Photos in Bali Flower Baths

  • To get in the flower bath without messing it up, sit on the edge of the bath and dip your feet in. Slowly move down into the bath to not mess up the design.
  • Experiment with different angles. Have someone stand high above you and have a shot from the top which gives a drone-like affect. If you have an insta360 or drone (for the outdoor baths) even better!
  • Pick your flower design carefully and try to know the colors ahead so you can wear a suit that matches accordingly.
  • Avoid wearing white as sometimes the flowers can color your suit. I did wear white and it was fine so it probably depends on the material of your suit as well.
  • If you go to one of the spas solo, typically the staff are super helpful at taking many pictures for you. Trust me!
  • Have fun with it and make sure to factor in relax time as most of the baths at spas are 30-45 minutes long. Unless they come with your hotel, then you have endless time to enjoy!
  • Be careful as some of the outdoor flower baths come with critters! Worm-like critters can be found but I didn’t see any in the baths I had at least.
