Where to Stay in Positano, Italy: The Prettiest Hotels

Wondering where to stay in Positano, Italy? It truly is the most picturesque and breathtaking town along the Amalfi Coast. But with so many hotels, villas, and apartments to choose from, finding the perfect accommodation in Positano can be a daunting task. You’ll fall in love with Positano, characterized by its colorful houses cascading down the cliffs and the turquoise waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. This is why you should base yourself here during your trip to the Amalfi Coast! Whether you’re looking for a luxurious villa with panoramic sea views, a cozy bed, and breakfast in the heart of the old town, or an affordable hotel that won’t compromise on charm, this guide will help you navigate through the maze of options. So sit back, grab a limoncello, and let’s explore the best places to stay in Positano.

Before you go:
🚪 The season opens in April and closes in October. Outside these periods, sun beds will be gone and many things will be closed. The best time to visit the Amalfi Coast without the crowds is May or September.
⛴️ Download the Ferry Hopper app to book ferry tickets so you can easily get around the Amalfi Coast.
🚗 Driving is not recommended due to tiny scary roads and taxis are expensive!
🏨 Top choice luxury hotel in Positano: Le Sirenuse or Hotel Marincanto
🏠 Top choice for mid-range hotel in Positano: Buca di Bacco which is more affordable and is where I stayed the first time I came to Positano. It is right near the pier and has a great restaurant.
🗺️ How to plan to get to Positano: use the Rome2Rio website or app. It’s super helpful in finding the best way to get to a destination. If you fly into Naples, you can take the ferry to Positano which takes about 2 hours. It is also possible to drive to Positano too.

Where to Stay in Positano

If you want to be close to the beach, restaurants, and shops, the area around Spiaggia Grande (the main beach) and Via dei Mulini is a great choice. This area is best for first-time visitors as you will be right in the heart of Positano. You will have direct access to most the places you’ll want to see as a first-time visitor and without having to climb a ton of stairs if you arrive by ferry. The ferry drops you off right by Spiaggia Grande.

If you want to save money and also prefer a more peaceful environment without lack of stunning views, you could opt to stay in the upper part of town, around Via Pasitea. This area is on the hillside overlooking the sea, and it offers breathtaking views of Positano and the Amalfi Coast. However, it will require climbing a LOT of stairs and could take 15-20 minutes of walking upward. Alternatively, the Sita bus system is easy and you can easily get up there by bus.

Another great area to stay in is Fornillo, a quiet neighborhood located west of Positano. Fornillo has a beautiful beach, and it’s perfect if you want to relax and enjoy a peaceful vacation away from the crowds.

Lastly, if you’re looking for luxury accommodation and want to experience the glamorous side of Positano, you might want to stay in the area around Via Cristoforo Colombo, where you’ll find high-end hotels like the dreamy Le Sirenuse and exclusive villas.

Overall, no matter where you stay in Positano, you’ll be surrounded by stunning scenery and charming streets.

Le Sirenuse is actually my dream hotel and if you have the chance to stay here you won’t regret it! It is one of the most luxurious and iconic hotels in Positano. The 5 star hotel has stunning views straight from the rooms and some rooms have balconies overlooking the sea and colorful stacked buildings. The rooms are beautifully decorated with antique furniture, art, and colorful tiles. If you don’t get a chance to stay here, at least have a drink at Franco’s bar, a wonderful cocktail bar where you can admire the view at sunset. You can also eat dinner at the Michelin-starred restaurant, La Sponda where you can try delicious Mediterranean cuisine. It is one of the best places to eat in Positano and probably the prettiest restaurant on the Amalfi Coast! There is also a super instagrammable swimming pool area for guests only and it overlooks the grand view of Positano.

Hotel Marincanto is a luxurious and elegant stay that is lower in price than the incredible Le Sirenuse. It is located on a cliff overlooking the sea, offering breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast. The rooms are beautifully decorated with comfort in mind too. The hotel features several terraces and a rooftop pool, making it the perfect relaxing getaway. One of the best features of Hotel Marincanto is its direct access to the beach and town center, making it convenient for guests to explore the area’s attractions. The hotel’s restaurant serves delicious food made locally sourced, and you can enjoy them while admiring the panoramic views.

If you don’t know where to stay in Positano, you won’t go wrong with Buca di Bacco! I stayed here the first time I visited Positano and it was great. Positano is very expensive but for the location, this was one of the lower-priced options. The restaurants they have are also delicious!

4. Blueline Positano

Why Stay? The kindest host + views from the terrace
📍Location: Via Chiesa Nuova, 59, 84017 Positano SA, Italy (Address)
💸 Nightly Rate: from €300 Check prices & book here

Blueline Positano is located at the top of the hills away from the city center giving it a relaxing local feel. I had the chance to stay here and when I met the kind host, Maria we ended up becoming friends. She is one of the sweetest humans ever. Maria picked me up from the port in Positano and showed me all the way up to her beautiful apartment. She checked on me daily to make sure I had things to do and even invited me for a wonderful night out with her friends as she knew I was traveling solo and wanted some company. We stay in touch to this day. There is a wonderful terrace where you can enjoy breakfast provided with views of Positano. Although further from the center, you can easily take a Sita bus to reach the apartment in minutes. Otherwise, it is 20 minute’s trek straight upstairs. I had no issues using the bus system!

Hotel Savoia is a family-run hotel dating back to 3 generations ago. It is beautifully decorated with Italian tiles from Vietri sul Mare. Why Stay? Access to a Private Beach
📍Location: Via Laurito, 2, 84017 Positano SA, Italy (Address)

Il San Pietro is one of the most luxurious 5 star hotels in Positano. It is located about 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) from the town center of Positano, so you will be in a much more secluded and peaceful area. However, the hotel is easily accessible by taxi or you can arrive by boat at the hotel’s private pier.

The landscapes overlooking the hotel are absolutely stunning. I visited as a non-guest to just have and aperitivo enjoying the sights as you see above. The hotel has direct access to the sea, and guests can enjoy a private beach and crystal-clear waters. Don’t miss the instagrammable fruit stand parked on the street nearby!

Why Stay? Convenient location + stellar views
📍Location: Viale Pasitea, 102, 84017 Positano SA, Italy (Address)

Hotel Royal Prisco is in a great location near some of the best shops as well as my favorite brunch spot, Casa e Bottega which you must try when visiting! The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and decorated with classic Italian furnishings. The hotel’s terrace is one of the best features, with breathtaking views of the coastline. The staff is welcoming and friendly, providing personalized service and excellent recommendations for exploring the area. Another highlight of the hotel is the breakfast, which includes a delicious spread of fresh pastries, fruit, and local specialties served on the terrace.

Affordable Hotels near Positano

Positano can be super expensive! If you want to stay within easy reach to Positano but don’t have the spend for it, then I recommend staying in Praiano, Ravello, or Scala. Praiano is so close to Positano. You can get there by Sita bus and it only takes 20 minutes. Scala is another bus ride away from Praiano. There is not a ton to do in Scala and few tourists are around. However, it offers luxurious but affordable hotel options with incredible views of Ravello. However, there. is no Ferry port in any of these towns so that’s the only downside as you have to depend on buses.

1. Hotel Margherita

Hotel Margherita is a family-run hotel situated in the small coastal village of Praiano, located right next to Positano. The hotel boasts panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding hills. The rooms and suites are elegantly furnished and decorated in warm colors.

2. Zi’Ntonio in Scala

Zi’Ntonio is a boutique hotel located in the oldest Amalfi Coast town, Scala. I stayed here as a cheap alternative to Positano and it was truly amazing. I got this hotel with a private balcony overlooking Ravello. The service was top-notch and I could easily take the bus to other towns. Ravello was a 25 minute walk away. It is such a unique find.

You can see my video featuring it on Instagram here.

3. Al Borgo Torello in Ravello

Al Borgo Torello is a charming boutique hotel located in the picturesque town of Ravello, just under an hour from Positano. The hotel is really central with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding hills. With its serene ambiance and stunning setting, Al Borgo Torello is the perfect pick for a relaxing vacation.
