Do you have Milos Island on your radar yet? It’s becoming one of the more popular Cycladic islands to visit but still remains quieter than other islands. With its dramatic landscapes, crystal waters, and lively atmosphere, it’s a must-visit during your Greece itinerary if you’re island hopping. Now let’s get into the perfect itinerary in this Milos travel guide! It will cover exactly what to do in Milos, Greece and the best place to eat during your time exploring this stunning Greek Island.

How long is enough to visit Milos?

I spent 2 nights here while it was hardly enough time I was able to see all the highlights as they were all within 10 minutes from each other (30 minutes max). I’d ideally recommend 3 or 4 nights so you have time to relax at the beach and enjoy your time at a slower pace.

How to get to Milos

Milos has an airport, however, it’s only accessible from Athens. So, you can either fly into Milos from Athens or take a ferry from one of the other islands. I always book my ferry tickets ahead on Omio.com. Milos is located only a 20 minute boat ride to Kimolos Island, a hidden gem nearby.

How to get around Milos

By Renting a Car or an ATV

It’s best to get around by car as you can explore at your own pace and have the flexibility to spend as much time as you want in each place. It will also allow you to venture off the beaten path if you want!

I’d recommend renting a car via Discover Cars to get the best rates. You’ll want to book ahead in case there’s any shortage of cars.

You can also get around by ATV in case that’s a better option for you than a car.

By Taxi

This is a very expensive option and there are not many taxi drivers on the island. If you want to get a taxi, it will cost you €20 minimum per ride likely! If you need any transfer services you can book ahead here and they will pick you up from your hotel, port, or airport.

By Bus

Public transport is quite limited on the island and not the best option. However, if you really don’t have the means to drive, then it can be doable if you plan ahead. You can check the bus timetable online. The buses leave from major areas such as Adamas, Plaka, Pollonia, and so on.

By Tour

There are many tours which will take you around so you don’t have to depend on a car.

Where to stay in Milos

The best areas to stay in Milos if you don’t have a car would be one of the main towns like Adamantas (where the port arrives), Plaka (where I stayed!), or Pollonia.

The most unique places to stay would be in one of the quaint fisherman villages like Klima, Firopótamos, or Mandrakia.

Milos is one of the more affordable places in Greece to visit with hotels starting around €60.

Stay in a Syrmata

There are also some really unique stays you can have in the quaint fisherman villages. You can stay in a Syrmata which are traditional boat houses built into a cave right on the edge of the water. I’d highly recommend staying in one if you get the chance.

Hadma Milos: One of the coolest ones I’ve spotted on TikTok is called Hadma Milos located in Firopótamos. You can check prices & book here.

Vasealis & Seafis Sirma: Another cool stay is this one! It’s located in the colorful fisherman village of Klima. You can check prices & book here.

Stay in a Windmill

Aera Milos: I stayed in a cute windmill called Aera Milos! It was located near Plaka which has a lot going on and you could see the whole town from the hotel. There were 2 bedrooms on 2 levels in this cozy windmill. The price ranges from $100-150 a night depending on the season. It’s super affordable especially since there are 2 rooms. I especially loved the views (pictured above) you could see of Plaka town right from the property.

Milos 3 Day Itinerary

Here’s what a 3 day itinerary to Milos would look like!

Day 1:

Morning: Breakfast at Mouratos Bakery, Sarakiniko Beach
Afternoon: Mandrakia, Lunch at Medusa, Firopotamos
Evening: Explore Plaka town, dinner at Avli, Plaka Castle for sunset views, drinks at Piazza Castello Café

Sarakiniko Beach

Sarakiniko Beach has one of the most unique landscapes. It looks like you’re on the moon with its white volcanic rock formations sculpted by wind and sea over centuries. Its unique lunar-like terrain contrasts with the azure waters of the Aegean Sea. Here you can sunbathe, swim in its crystal-clear waters, or dive into the water from the cliffs. There are plenty of different unique swimming spots here.

Firopotamos

Firopotamos is a charming fishing village characterized by its quaint white-washed buildings and colorful doors and shutters. The village has a scenic natural harbor, where small fishing boats dot the turquoise waters. This Instagram hotspot is one of the reasons I wanted to come to Milos. There’s also a sandy beach on the other side where you can sunbathe if you fancy.

Mandrakia

Mandrakia is another cute fishing village located not too far from Firopotamos. It also has the traditional Cycladic architecture, with whitewashed buildings and colorful accents. Right in Madrakia, you’ll find the only restaurant, Medusa. Both locals and tourists love this place. They are known for their famous octopus and you can find it also hanging outside the restaurant.

Day 2:

Morning & Afternoon: Kleftiko day tour
Evening: Dinner at O! Hamos! Tavern

On Day 2 you won’t want to miss visiting Kleftiko on a Sailing Day Trip. Kleftiko is a located along the coastline of Milos, Greece and only accessible by boat. This stunning place consists of a sea caves and rock formations. You can explore caves, swim, and enjoy lunch from the boat.

Day 3:

Morning: Explore Papafragas Cave, Head to Pollonia
Afternoon: Lunch at Yialos, Have a beach day at Tsigrado Beach or Firiplaka Beach
Evening: Visit Klima at Sunset, Enjoy dinner at Astakas Cafe Restaurant

Papafragas Cave

Papafragas Cave, is a hidden gem located not far from Pollonia. The cave is a natural wander carved next to the sea. Its dramatic limestone cliffs and crystal-clear waters create this beautiful place. There’s signs marked to enter at your own risk as it can be a bit unsafe to climb down. However, if you do, there’s a few cool things to explore there including a sandy beach area overlooking the sea.

Pollonia

Pollonia is another port town serving ferries from Kimolos, one of my favorite Greek Islands which is much lesser known to tourists. In Pollonia, you will find a beach, many seafront restaurants, and hidden back streets with traditional whitewashed buildings adorned with colorful flowers. When I visited, I tried Yialos for lunch and loved the food and views here. After, I passed by the cutest Greek Orthodox Church located right behind Yialos. It’s called Holy Naydrio of Agia Paraskevi Pollonia.

Klima

Klima, is another adorable fishing village with unique and colorful boat garages, known as “syrmata,” carved into the cliffs. In fact, staying at one is such a unique experience. If you’re looking to stay in one, I’d recommend Vasealis & Seafis Sirma. While in Klima, you should dine at Astakas Cafe Restaurant, the only restaurant in the village.

Astakas Cafe Restaurant: $$ A great place to enjoy dinner at sunset in Klima, a cute fisherman village.
Medusa: $$ Situated in Mandrakia, a favorite by locals and tourists. Famous for their octopus which you also find hanging outside the restaurant.

Nostos: $$ Located in Pollonia on the seafront and offers a finer dining experience with seafood and Greek specialties.
Yialos: $$ Located in Pollonia on the seafront with great seafood.
Gyros of Milos: $ Located in Pollonia with the best gyros in town.
