Tavira is known as one of the prettiest towns in the Algarve region of Portugal. Visit here and you’ll feel you’ve stepped back in time. Its origins date back to the 8th century and have virtually remained unchanged over time. Wander through its old streets and you will notice the traditional Portuguese characteristics of the latticework doors, the Moorish-influenced door knockers in the shape of hands, and the colorful azulejo tiling on the low whitewash buildings.

21. Ravello, Italy

Explored by Kerry Hanson from VeggTravel
Ravello is located in the Salerno province of Campania Italy, located above the Amalfi Coast. Whilst an Amalfi Coast road trip is not particularly unusual, Ravello is often overlooked. Set back 365 meters high into the mountains, to get to Ravello you have a winding and uphill journey which many people skip as they flock to the coastal areas of Amalfi Town and Positano. Unlike the Amalfi Coast, there is ample parking in Ravello and the area is laid back and has a sophisticated charm.
However, visiting Ravello is like exploring a garden in the sky which has earned itself the honor of becoming a UNESECO world heritage site. Quaint café style bistros and restaurants are in the main square but walk a little further out and you will find narrow cobbled shopping streets the explore.
🌇Best Viewpoints: The views across the Amalfi Coast are spectacular and in the other direction, you have stunning views of the inland mountains. A unique photo of the view through a small vineyard can be taken close to the top of the hill where people park.
While not entirely off the beaten path, it certainly feels like you are as Ravello truly is one of the hidden gems in Europe.
☀️Best Time To Visit Ravello: The best time to visit is early (June) or late summer (Aug-Sept) to avoid the peak travel time of July.
✈️ How to get to Ravello: There is no direct route to Ravello. The closest airport to Ravello is Naples and it would be best to rent a car in order to get there which also will enable you to discover the wider area.
🧳Perfect day trip from Positano which will take you an hour and a half by bus. Take line 5110 or line 5070 (costs 2€ – 3€).
🏨Where to stay in Ravello: If you’re looking for a luxurious escape, then consider staying at the Villa Piedimonte as the views are fabulous and the décor is modern, whilst also having an authentic Italian style.
