Chefchaouen Instagram Spots

During my time in Chefchaouen, I traveled here solo. While I did take some photos on my tripod as I felt safe to do so in the morning when many people weren’t around or doing the day on the quieter streets, I hired a photographer to take many of the photos in this post (the ones in my yellow dress and orange skirt).

The shoot only cost $40 for an hour and Mahmoud was FANTASTIC!

He is an amazing photographer and I really mean it! Mahmoud went above and beyond to make sure I got the best photos. He’s got a real eye for detail and made sure my hair wasn’t out of place, my dress was sitting right, and he helped me pose perfectly. I love how the photos turned out. This is a great value for price.

1. Paid Setup

For around 5 MAD (around 50 cents), you can take photos at the patio of a locals home. This was actually my personal favorite photo spot in Chefchaouen. I love how dreamy this setup is and the owner is a genius for turning it into a business and Instagram hotspot.

This place is open daily (unless the owner is traveling) from 9 or 10 am and closes at sunset.

It is a busy place for photographs and you get about 5 minutes to take pictures here. You can arrange with the owner a longer shoot period for an additional cost. I know a couple actually reserved it for 30 minutes to have a marriage proposal here!

📸 Hire my photographer for $40! Book him here

📸 Photo Tip: You can sit on the chair and pour the tea in a cup or walk up the steps experimenting with other photo angles.
📍Location: 192 Hassan 1 (Google Maps Location)
🎟 Entry: 5 MAD (around 50 cents)

2. The Spanish Mosque

Watching the sunset from the sunset at the Spanish Mosque has to be the very best thing to do in Chefchaouen. After a pretty easy 30 minute walk, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the blue city. Plus, the sunsets in Morocco are just breath-taking!

📸 Photo Tip: Arrive a good 30-45 minutes before sunset. There will be a lot of people but mostly they sit on the edge of the lookout point. You can easily find a corner from the grass to take a shot like this. Plus, take photos before you get to the actual mosque too!
📍Location: Bouzafer Mosque (Google Maps Location)

3. Corner House

This spot is simply stunning and one of my favorite photo spots in Chefchaouen. It’s one of the secret Instagram spots in Chefchaouen so if you want the location, you should hire my photographer who took me here!

🤳 Best tripods for solo travel:
1. Simple, compact for mobile phones
2. DSLR tripod

📸 Photo Tip: Sit on the corner and have the photographer frame the photo from an angle looking in towards the subject. You could also stand on the steps or sit on the steps.

4. House of Mosaics

This is the cutest house! It’s so narrow and has so much greenery in front. Decked with pots of plants as well. It’s not on a main street at all so you wouldn’t really find it if you weren’t looking for it. This is therefore one of the best hidden gems in Chefchaouen! You won’t have to fight a crowd for a photo here.

📸 Photo Tip: Stand in front of the house and frame some of the green leaves from the tree in front of your photo.
📍Location: House of Mosaics (Google Maps Location)

5. Dar Sababa Hotel with a Rooftop in Chefchaouen

Dar Sababa Hotel is insanely affordable €50 a night with free breakfast included. The breakfast is served on the rooftop with views of the blue city. And the rooftop is super instagrammable too! I love a good affordable stay with a view. Plus, the rooms are so cute in true Moroccan style. You can watch my Instagram video here to see more of this hotel!

📸 Photo Tip: Book this hotel to access the private rooftop at the Dar Sababa Hotel. You will have the place mostly to yourself unless another guest is around.
📍Location: Dar Sababa Hotel (Google Maps Location)

6. Tuiles colorées

Right down the stairs, past Dar Sababa Hotel, are these colorful stairs resembling mosaics and with potted plants along each side. You have the iconic blue door behind making this another great Instagram spot in Chefchaouen.

📸 Photo Tip: This is a pretty easy one to capture. I walked past here several times and it was never busy. Just be conscious not to disturb those living here. There’s even a sign to acknowledge that.
📍Location: Google Maps Location

7. Sidi Bouchouka

This is one of the most beautiful streets in Chefchaouen. You can either stand on the stairs and try to get as much of the frame in as possible or stand next to the stunning door on the side. The Moroccan patterns and tiles next to the blue walls is what really makes this spot stand out.

PS: Most of the photos in here were taken by a photographer I hired for only $40! You can book him here.

📸 Photo Tip: Be sure to go early in the morning before 10am to avoid the harsh sun and shade here. Otherwise, you can go around sunset but you might have to wait for others taking a photo here as it’s one of the most popular instagram spots in Chefchaouen.
📍Location: Sidi Bouchouka photo spot (Google Maps Location).

8. Lonely Planet Photo Cover

Lonely Planet featured Chefchaouen on their book cover! This is where you can find the exact spot.

📸 Photo Tip: It was relatively quiet with no tourists around when I visited this spot. There’s many cute corners so pick your favorite and take as many photos as you want.
📍Location: 224 Al hassan 1 – Onsar (Google Maps Location).

9. Orange Shop – Said Juice Seller

My favorite Chefchaouen Instagram Spots are all the cute orange juice stands. This one is the most famous one by far. The artificial orange tree with the yellow bench really stand out against the blue walls. You do need to buy some orange juice to take a photo but it’s soooo delicious you will be glad you did.

📸 Photo Tip: You have to buy orange juice to take a photo here. You can call the cute cat so she can be in your photo with you! There’s also a fun trend on TikTok (see here) you can do where you show the orange and it turning into juice. Also, I loved wearing orange here to match the oranges!
📍Location: 13 Akbat Mechaat (Google Maps Location)

10. Place El Haouta

Place El Haouta in Chefchaouen is a cute square within the medina, known for its traditional Moroccan fountain and surrounded by the town’s signature blue-washed buildings. It’s actually a pretty peaceful spot, away from the busier parts of the city.

📸 Photo Tip: It was pretty quiet when I went around 4pm in August but I had to wait for a few passer-byers to get out of the frame. You can experiment with different photos. Try sitting on the bench in the square or taking a shot in front of the ornate structure.
📍Location: Place El Haouta (Google Maps Location).

11. The Blue Street

Located around the corner from the orange juice stand is Chefchaouen bluest street! This stairwell leading up to a few homes is somehow designated the blue street! Even though it is one of many!

📸 Photo Tip: Stand or sit in this cute alley and have fun taking photos!
📍Location: Pinning the orange stand but it’s right past it on the opposite side (Google Maps Location).

12. Callejon El Asri

This is another very popular Instagram spot in Chefchaouen. The street has many stairs and each side you’ll find colorful pots on each side. The stairs are painted blue like most of the streets in the blue city. There’s also welcome written in different languages on the steps.

📸 Photo Tip: Walk up the steps taking some movement shots or sit on the steps for some beautiful photos.
📍Location: (Google Maps Location)

13. Three Blue Doors

These 3 blue doors are so pretty lined up next to each other! Stand in one of the doorways or take some steps in front of the doorways framing all 3 in the shot. Make sure you wear a contrasting bright color to go against all the blues! You will find this spot on the way to the orange fruit stand.

📸 Photo Tip: If you get here early you won’t have to pay a fee to take a photo here!
📍Location: 3 Blue Doors (Google Maps Location)
